Amnesia: The Bunker is without a doubt the most frightening horror game I've played this decade. Its terrifying tale of being chased through a crumbling French bunker by a monster has the darkest, thickest, most unnerving atmosphere of any horror game I've played since Alien: Isolation. It's so intense that it's hard to imagine anyone making something light and airy out of its subterranean warrens, and it's downright inconceivable that someone might, say, turn Amnesia: The Bunker into Mirror's Edge.

And yet, that's exactly what modder TiMan has done. Created for Frictional Games' 2026 modding jam—which ran with the theme of 'What is reality?'—Bunker's Edge sees the base game's protagonist Henri transported through a portal from the trenches of war-ravaged France to the pristine skyline of EA's free-running classic.

The change of scenery alone is remarkable. The Bunker's HPL engine is purpose built to deliver darkness, shadows and murk, so seeing it handle such a bright and colourful environment is mightily impressive. But what's really interesting is how TiMan has implemented all of Mirror's Edge's free-running mechanics. Mantling, sliding, wall-running, pipe-climbing, runner's vision, that 180-degree wall-jump that I always struggled to perform in the base game, it's all here.

Despite the breezier setting, Bunker's Edge is still a horror game. The Bunker's monster has followed Henri through the portal, and chases him across the rooftops just as relentlessly as it stalks him through the base game's subterranean fortification.

All told, it's a snazzy bit of modding showmanship, though there are a couple of points to be aware of. First off, Bunker's Edge is (very understandably) not as slick as actual Mirror's Edge. Some of Henri's parkour moves, like sliding, are a little awkward, and more than once I clambered straight through a wall and found myself trapped inside the world geometry.

The other thing to note is that Bunker's Edge is very short. You can blast through the whole thing in about 15 minutes. The ending is also extremely weird, not what you'd expect from either The Bunker or Mirror's Edge.

Nonetheless, Bunker's Edge is a fun diversion for a Sunday afternoon. Alongside hosting modding jams, Frictional is also working on its next horror game Ontos. The sci-fi adventure has more in common with 2015's Soma than The Bunker, but it's still one of my most anticipated games of 2027.
