Baldur's Gate 3's second act should get a playable new region this year, assuming this custom campaign mod doesn't hit any more roadblocks
The world certainly isn't short of ambitious Baldur's Gate 3 custom campaign mods to keep track of, and one looking to substantially expand the base game's second act has shared another progress update. Having been delayed from 2025 into 2026, its creator's still aiming to release a playable version by the end of this year, but has now admitted that's unlikely to happen in the first half of the calendar, as they'd originally hoped. Despite that, they've released a fresh trailer and said developm

Forza Horizon 6's full map has finally been revealed, and while Tokyo doesn't engulf half of it, I'm still seeing plenty of appealing asphalt spaghetti
Forza Horizon 6's full map has broken cover, giving folks a chance to stare, gawp, and declare 'damn, those be some roads'. Naturally, many have run to compare Playground Games' rendition of Japan to the maps of previous Horizons and having quickly done so myself, I'm still optimisting that I'll dig this vast expanse of hairpins and turns more than I did Horizon 5's very green and yellow blob. Just Cause studio's canned dragon-riding fantasy romp AionGuard "would have been Crimson Desert", reckons former Avalanche creative head
Back in the late 2000s, Just Cause developers Avalanche ended up in a publishing pickle with a fantasy open-worlder they were working on. It was dubbed AionGuard, and ex-Avalanche chief creative officer Christofer Sundberg reckons that had it not ended up chucked on the cancellation bonfire, the game would've done a lot of the same things which've helped make Crimson Desert a hit all these years later. How does Papers, Please creator Lucas Pope deal with sharing his work in this era of AI? A severe lack of posting
This current era of the internet is very easily the worst one, even within its comparatively short existence. A myriad of reasons contributes to this, the most annoying and newest one being the advent of AI preying upon every last post you release unto the world. Artists are essentially in a constant state of looking over their shoulder in a dark alleyway in fear of their works being stolen. So what is Lucas Pope, creator of Papers, Place and Return of the Obra Dinn doing to combat this? Simply

Frostpunk 2's next bit of DLC literally turns up the heat with yet another environmental disaster to deal with: volcanoes
Frostpunk 2 is, by its very name, a cold game. That's its whole shtick, that the world is covered by an apocalyptic blizzard, and it's on you to figure out how to keep your city running amongst the harsh conditions. This includes keeping everyone warm, so it does tickle me that the game's next bit of DLC, revealed to be titled Breach of Trust, essentially says "no, not that warm." Read more

"We're not doing zombie animals", says State of Decay 3 studio head, but you can turn a tea kettle into an undead-attracting bomb
If you have been keeping a candle lit for State Of Decay 3 since its 2020 reveal trailer purely for the prospect of fighting a zombie deer then, I'm afraid, it's time to blow that candle out. Apparently, the CGI reveal trailer was made when the open-world zombie survival game was barely a concept. Six years on from the reveal, Undead Labs have a working build of the game and it doesn't feature the reanimated corpse of Bambi. Though it does let you turn a kettle into an IED. Read more

"Keeping teams together doesn't seem to matter to people, but for us it did": Star Wars Zero Company's director on what the industry can learn from XCOM 2
It seems that every week we're reporting on news of another wave of layoffs at a big game studio. In March alone, we saw 1000 staff let go at Epic Games, 124 at Eidos Montreal, and over 100 at Ubisoft's Red Storm Entertainment. And those are just the ones I can name without needing to rack my brain. In some cases, these "reorganisations" are to keep investors happy, in others they're painted as necessary for a studio to keep the lights on until its next paycheck. But every time a team loses memb
